Luxoplasts II

Fibre Optic Light Installation

Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre, New Plymouth.
Lower Eastern Ramp.
1 December - 18 March 2019

Marrying light (lux) with plastic (plast) and framed within a circular microscopic-like aperture, Elley’s Luxoplasts are reminiscent of Victorian Diatom Slides opening up the biomorphic world of single-cell waterborne organisms. However, drawing attention to the precarious health of our biosphere, these scaled-up life-forms are hybrids of the organic and the synthetic, inspired by the man-made plastic pollutants infecting our waters.

Curated by Paul Brobbel.
